Capsicum (ornamental pepper), belongs to the Solanaceae family native to the Americas.  These peppers are cultivated as ornamental plants, they have a very decorative blend of colors, with fruit that start out yellow, progress to orange, and finally turn bright red. The fruit is edible, but is very hot. The name Capsicum   comes from the Greek, ‘to bite,’ and is a reference to the hot pungent properties of the fruits and seeds.  Today ornamental peppers are found commonly in organic gardens.

Description:

Capsicum, a must have for your organic vegetable garden, is a tender perennial which grows to about 0.5–1.5 m (20–60 in) in height. It has straight, woody stems and single white flowers in the axils of the leaves. These flowers bear fruit, juiceless berries or pods that vary in shape and size. They contain many flat, kidney-shaped, white seeds, which are very hot in taste.
Capsicum is grown from seed; the seedlings are transplanted as soon as they are strong enough.

Medicinal Uses:

Capsicum is used for healing a diverse range of ailments, both internally and externally.  Capsicum, taken internally, is said to have antibacterial properties which help heal and ward off infections.  Capsicum is used to speed up metabolism, improve circulation, to stabilize blood pressure and lower cholesterol.
Externally, Capsicum is used for arthritis, sore back muscles, and bruises.
